The present coin represents the only example of the date certified as MS-66 by PCGS, with none certified finer. An impressive coin and an important opportunity as well.

The very finest and only MS-66 of 1,085 examples from the S.S. Central America treasure certified by PCGS.What an incredible piece this would be to go with a gem 1857-S from the same treasure! Date logotype nicely impressed, 1 equidistant between truncation and dentils, left edge of lower serif over space between dentils, lowest points of uppermost stars resemble tear drops rather than star points. Just the tops of the designer's initials (JBL) are seen on Miss Liberty's truncation. Reverse S mintmark boldly impressed, slightly closer to tail feathers than N below, leaning slightly left. Crossbar of A in STATES missing save for a nub at the right side. Top crossbar of E in AMERICA "broken." A faint die crack runs upward from the rim at 6:00, crossing the N in the denomination and then touching the mintmark. Another fine crack unites the bottoms of STATE, with a branch from that crack jutting upward and crossing the second T, then to the dentils above.
