This is the finer of two examples from the S.S. Central America treasure certified by PCGS. In the year minted this piece came to California, possibly as part of a commercial payment (for San Francisco merchants would not accept paper money from the East). Thus, the coin almost completed a round trip from the East to the West and back again. Transplanted to the West Coast, the coin was preserved for posterity and is here offered.
