Breen enumerates the existence of eight specimens, a roster prepared before this remarkable S.S. Central America find. The discovery of multiple examples of this issue in the treasure now makes this a highly collectible variety, although still a rarity.

Die notes: Liberty Head similar to the foregoing, but from a different die. Coronet point barely intrudes into the space between stars 6 and 7. Stars are thin ("spidery" or "skeletal"). The date may have been prepared for earlier use. In any event, now the 1855 date has the 2nd 5 on a raised circular area, a "plug" inserted into the die. o The reverse die is conceptually similar to the foregoing, but with different topography-the preceding die being unfit for further use by 1855. Die state: Reverse with S (S.M.V.) filled. No cracks evident. PCGS Data: This is tied with one other among an incredible and delightful 17 from the S.S. Central America treasure certified by PCGS.
