Referring to 'Trafalgar Square', Saines wrote 'working from a studio in Chelsea in the early 1930's, his oils responded to the luminous land and cityscapes of late nineteenth century Impressionism, especialy the style of Monet...' (C. Saines, Robert Campbell Retrospective, Melbourne, 1985, p. 4)
