The frosted gilt two thirds movement with bimetallic balance and counterpoised lever escapement, unusual stem winding system, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds in plain silvered case with supplementary snap on ring to the bezel, snap on back and cuvette, with extract from the maker's archives dated 10 July 1996 giving date of manufacture as 1882, case and movement signed
51 mm. diam.

Lot Essay

The winding system of this watch appears to be a variation on the design by O. Courvoisier, English patent number 1114 of 1873. An illustration of the original design is show in Patek Philippe by Huber & Banbery, p. 122, fig. 43b.
