The case with ribbon-tied moulding to the flat top, beaded frames to the front and sides and on concave moulded base, laurel wreath mount above the white enamel Roman and Arabic dial signed Ferdinand Berthoud with counterpoised blued steel sweep centre seconds hand and pierced gilt-metal hour and minute hands, the movement with circular plates and four back-pinned pillars, going barrels, anchor escapement and grid-iron pendulum (now steel suspended), strike on bell affixed to the back-plate signed Ferdinand Berthoud; later plastic glazing
