Folio, 8 pages on vellum, the scribal text within illuminated borders, the first page with the regional coats-of-arms within scrolls surmounted by the Imperial double-headed eagle, the remainder with the cypher of Nicholas I, at the head, decorative scrolls and wreaths on the side margins, the double-headed eagle with foliate scrolls at the foot, the fifth page with an illuminated coat of arms awarded to Roman Tal', the last page dated 1 May 1842 and signed in Cyrillic 'Nikolai', counter-signed the state-secretary of the Ministry of Justice, bound in original blind-stamped green velvet, cream moiré silk liners and doublures, held with cord suspending the wax seal, in silver-gilt case, the detachable cover applied with the crowned Imperial double-headed eagle, marked on cover and base, with two gold-thread tassles

Lot Essay

The grant of nobility is awarded to Roman Tal', who entered Imperial service in the St. Petersburg Post Office in 1825, holding various position in the capital and the Baltic States. He was awarded the order of St. Stanislas in 1839 and appointed Court Councillor in 1840.
