In the manner of Mayhew and Ince
Each with a rectangular moulded hinged folding top enclosing a green baize-lined interior, with a plain frieze, on panelled square chamfered legs, en suite to the chairs (Lot 20) and stools (Lots 21 and 22), filled with fret carving of bells and rosettes, with pierced angles and block feet, one hinge stamped 'H. TIBATS', one oak sliding strengthener possibly replaced, one 7½ in. x 4¼ in. (19 cm. x 11 cm.) section of veneer and oak on the concertina-action replaced, five angle-brackets replaced

Lot Essay

A pair of card-tables with the same pattern of bell-hung fretwork on the legs were sold by the Executors of the late 1st Viscount Kemsley, Dropmore, Buckinghamshire, Sotheby's house sale, 18-20 March 1969, lot 89, and again anonymously, Christie's New York, 12 April 1996, lot 170. A set of chairs with the same pattern of leg were advertised by Anthony James, London, in The Connoisseur, June 1953, p. xcii.
