A QUEEN ANNE WALNUT AND FLORAL-MARQUETRY CHEST
Crossbanded and inlaid overall with boxwood and ebony lines, the moulded rectangular top with a central oval panel inlaid with scrolling foliage and flowers interspersed with three birds, the spandrels each with conforming decoration and a bird, above two short drawers each inlaid with an oval panel of scrolling flowers issuing from a scallop-shell, above three graduated long drawers each with two conforming panels, the sides each with an arched panel of flowers and foliage with a bird, on later bun feet, minor restorations, previously but not originally with bracket feet
40 in. (101.5 cm.) wide; 36¾ in. (93 cm.) high; 23 in. (58.5 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

A similar floral marquetry chest, with arched panels on the sides, was sold from a private collection, Christie's New York, 16 April 1994, lot 197.
