A DUTCH GROS AND PETIT POINT NEEDLEWORK TABLE-CARPET
Early 17th Century
Woven in wools and silk, in blues, greens and yellows, the rectangular field with a central panel embroidered with twisting foliage and flowers interspersed with birds and mythological animals including a unicorn and snakes, centred by a lozenge with a peacock, the border with a continuous landscape scene of birds, animals, trees and fruit trees with buildings, the corners each with swans on a river, restorations, with a later green felt backing, altered in shape, with extensive restorations
