A PAIR OF GEORGE I WALNUT AND BURR-WALNUT BOOKCASES
Each with rectangular cavetto cornice above glazed doors with bevelled plates divided by cross and feather-banded glazing bars, one with three doors, the other with two large doors, each enclosing three adjustable shelves, the moulded waist above pairs of cross and feather-banded doors, each originally with one shelf and one with a later shelf, on a moulded plinth, the three-door bookcase with a crossbanded panel to the sides of the base, restorations, originally fitted into a recess and with resulting replacements to side mouldings and veneer, the central door of the three-door bookcase originally sliding, the two-door bookcase formed from a pair that were originally partially fitted into a recess

The two-door bookcase:

Possibly supplied to the Michell family, Petersfield House, Hampshire. Possibly by descent into the Jolliffe family through the marriage of John Jolliffe to Katherine Michell, daughter of Robert Michell, of Petersfield House, Hampshire in the mid-18th Century.
Thence by descent in the Jolliffe family, Barons Hylton, Ammerdown Park, Somerset certainly by the early 20th Century.
