Late 18th Century, impressed upper-case mark to reverse
After the original model by John Flaxman R.A., applied in white relief with a profile bust of the statesman facing to his right, with hair curled and en queue, wearing a shirt with a ruff and a buttoned coat above the impressed inscription G.R FRANKLIN (two chips to reverse)

William Franklin (1731-1813), the estranged son of Benjamin Franklin, was appointed Governor of New Jersey in 1763. His loyalty to the British Crown made his position untenable and he returned to Britain in 1782.
