A French gilt-brass striking and repeating carriage clock with alarm, late 19th century
The case with foliate scroll handle to the stepped and fluted top, cast in low relief with floral decoration and to the rear door and top with crossed quiver and torch, applied with ribbon mounts above the bezel and above oval quatrefoil-pierced sound frets to the sides, on four paw feet, the silvered dial with Arabic chapter ring and engine-turned centre, inscribed with later retail signature CARTIER PARIS, pierced gilt-metal hands, the twin barrel movement with silvered platform to the bimetallic balance with lever escapement, strike/repeat and alarm set via enamel dial on the backplate, on gong, numbered 289 -- 4¾in. (12cm.) high
