An Empire ormolu striking mantel clock, early 19th century
The case modelled with a classical lady seated in an armchair with winged female rests and monopodiae feet, playing cup and ball with a child standing on a stool before her, a cat and a dog (later) to one side, on base with canted angles and applied with relief mounts of Mercury masks, caduceuses, urns and a ram, on paw feet, the white enamel Roman dial with Arabic quarters (cracks and chips), gilt hands, the twin barrel movement with adapted suspension and countwheel strike on bell (lacking) -- 12¾in. (32.5cm.) high; now mounted on a later gilt-painted wooden plinth
