A Continental gilt-brass striking table clock with calendar
The case with hinged movement cover to the base on sphinx feet and set with a bell twice pierced with winding squares, the plinth pierced for sound and supporting six plain columns beneath an arcaded superstructure, with the dial to the top with narrow twice XII inner concentric chapter ring with later hand, outer gilt-brass Arabic minute ring with Roman quarters, with lower and outer ring displaying the calendar indicated by a silvered cast metal finial figure, the movement housed within a glass drum, comprising two stages with plain end columns, the lower going train with chain fusee and gilt-brass barrel with pinned fuel end caps, verge escapement planted on the top plate with simple steel cock to the plain free-arm balance with hairspring, stamped with the signature PP by the blued steel clock for the going-spring barrel, the strike train above with going barrel and strike on a bell beneath the dial; case, dial and movement composite, probably South German, second half 17th century -- 6¾in.
