Lot Essay

During World War II Ronald Searle served with 287 Field Co, Royal Engineers from 1939, contributing to Daily Express (1939), Discovery, London Opinion (1940) and Lilliput (1941) until captured by the Japanese at the fall of Singapore and from 1942 to 1945 was a prisoner of war in Siam and Malaya. During this time he befriended the brother of Captain Lammert to whom he gave these sketches.
