Levels: two bottom neck or better and one very top shoulder; two corroded capsules
A poor summer for the reds, but a perfect autumn for Sauternes. Yquem superb, and a great favourite of Alexandre de Lur Saluces. Nearly four dozen notes between 1973 and May this year (2000). Despite slight variations in depth of colour, all ambrosial ! MB
Also tasted at Len Evan's final dinner as Chairman, Sydney Wine Show, February 2000 : amber-golden, with complex, concentrated fruit aromas including honey and orange-peel. This is amazingly rich and fat, with superb intensity of flavour, great length and powerful sweetness. It is abundantly mature, and also has years ahead of it. AH
