Rudesheimer Apostelswein--1727
Rheingau
Level: 0.5cm; slightly torn label; capsuled and labelled at the Bremer Ratskeller
Provenance : the renowned and historic cellar of the Town Hall, Bremen. Bottled from the original cask and sold at Christie's in June 1974. The stone vaulted cellars of the Ratskeller are famed throughout Germany. In addition to a vast stock of wines from all the German wine districts, the oldest part of the cellar is devoted to very large and original casks known as the Twelve Apostles. The 1727 is the second oldest wine.

Old hock was highly regarded in English upper class circles in the 18th and early 19th century. The first mention of Hock (Rhine wine) in a Christie catalogue was in 1767, a 100-year old Hock fetching a record price in 1810.
Tasting note : amber-straw coloured; rich, pungent, sherry-like bouquet; medium dry, distinctive flavour, acidity welding it together. A rare experience. MB
1 half bottle per lot
