Provenance: "An Important sale. Grand Vin de Château Latour" the property of the Société Civile du Vignoble de Château Latour, sold at Christie's, 16 June 1977.
This special promotional sale comprised 82 vintages of Latour from 1863 onwards, some of the greatest rarity, including every vintage from 1916 to 1974. Tasted at the Chateau in 1970 I noted it as a magnificent wine: incredible depth of colour and liveliness for its age : gentle, subtle, persistent bouquet; full yet soft and harmonious. Beautiful flavour and finish. Perfect. More recently, 1863 Latour served at a great Latour dinner at Christie's in New York earlier this year and was reported to be the star wine, superlative in every respect. MB
