Richebourg--Vintage 1957
Côte de Nuits, Henri Jayer
Level: 4.5cm; binsoiled, torn and folded label; no capsule
Henri Jayer is an exemplary grower, whose tiny productions are treasured like diamonds. He attributes his success, and the longevity of his wines, to low yields : "Small yields give wines which are more complete, with firmer texture and more remarkable length. It is the length of a wine which ensures its longevitiy."
Richebourg is his greatest cuvée, and 1957 a finer, more complete vintage in Burgundy than in Bordeaux, with sufficient acidity to have ensured a long life. AH
