Lot Essay

Simeon Lord Brierley (1835-1906) was born into humble circumstances. He worked all his life in various calico printing works in the Rochdale area. He became interested in cutting as a child and continued cutting close to age 70, despite suffering from rheumatism. He was quite prolific and his 'pictures' are often quite humorous.
