A striking haute couture evening ensemble from Yves Saint Laurent's African inspired collection, Spring, 1967, comprising a short-sleeved dress, the flame-coloured ground woven with narrow fuchsia and blue stripes, embroidered with gold sequins in a zigzag pattern, the neckline, sleeves and hem similarly decorated with bands of gold sequins; the matching double-breasted coat with decorative gilt and bronze sequinned buttons (one missing), and deep mink trim at collars, cuffs and hem, both dress and coat with Yves Saint Laurent, Paris label, numbered 13541 and 13542 respectively, the ensemble accompanied by corresponding printed costume designs on Yves Saint Laurent printed sketch paper, one for each piece, both numbered Croquis No.43, one with a fabric swatch attached, both -- 10½x8¼in. (26.7x21cm.); four corresponding portrait photographs of Dame Margot Fonteyn by her brother Felix Fonteyn, 1967; and a colour snap-shot of Fonteyn, circa 1967, largest -- 10x7in. (25.4x17.7cm.) (9)
