An haute couture outfit comprising a dress of silver grey silk faille, with three-quarter length sleeves and voluminous mid-calf length skirt with the capacity to be worn in the 'bunched up' style, the dress decorated at the hips with an integral sash trimmed at the front with an asymmetrical bow, and fitted boned slip of ivory net with full petticoat of stiffened tulle; and a corresponding coat of pewter grey silk faille lined in silver grey faille to match the dress, the coat with three-quarter length sleeves and deep shawl collar with Christian Dior, Paris, Automne-Hiver, 1954 label, numbered 49678; an elaborate blue and brown feather headdress, with Christian Dior, Paris label and matching pewter coloured hat pins; a pair of grey silk court shoes with turquoise blue feather decoration, stamped inside Delman, Christian Dior, Paris; a pair of wrist-length dove grey suede gloves stamped inside Fabriqué En France; and a clutch bag of pewter grey plush velvet, labelled Christian Dior, Colifichets, Paris; accompanied by five black and white photographs, majority by Felix Fonteyn, of Margot Fonteyn wearing the outfit on the occasion of her marriage to Dr. Roberto Arias, February 6th, 1956 -- largest 10x8in. Margot Fonteyn was introduced to Dior by French dancer/choreographer Roland Petit. He took her to meet Christian Dior when he started up in 1947. Fonteyn recalled ...The Maison Dior decided to take me under its wing, and I bought one of the first seasons outfits...I bought some ravishing dresses from Dior and of course, ordered my wedding dress there...
