The style of this panel is typical of the designs produced on furniture and works of art by the house of Giroux towards the end of the 19th Century. Inspired by the Japanese designs found in illustrated material of the period, Rosalie Duvinage filed a patent for a new technique described as une mosaique combinée avec cloisonnement métallique pour objets artistiques et d'ameublement in June 1877.
A virtually identical panel is illustrated in the above publication from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
