Its central character is the girl Klara (in Russian Marie or Masha) who is given a nutcracker by her godfather Drosselmeyer for Christmas. She falls asleep,and dreams that she defends it against the King of the Mice. The nutcracker then changes into a handsome Prince, who takes her on a fabulous journey; after passing through a snow-storm, they come to the Kingdom of Sweets, where the Sugar-Plum Fairy honours them with a Grand Divertissement. A headdress in the form of a tiara of silvered tendril design, with leaves and buds, the central faceted rhinestone surrounded by pink and blue leaves and rhinestone drops and buds; accompanied by four corresponding press photographs, three of Fonteyn and Somes in costume on stage performances, one dated [apparently erroneously] on the reverse 30 NOV 1959, two of the four photographs with Italian press credits on the reverse, largest -- 6½x14½in. (16.5x36.2cm.) and 9¾x11¾in. (24.8x29.8cm.) (5)
