Figures on a Beach, a fishing village beyond

A similar watercolour of Barmouth, North Wales, was sold at Sotheby's London, 19 July 1973, lot 99 (£800 to Rumens Gallery).
Varley set off on his first Welsh tour in the company of George Arnold, the landscape painter. He returned to Barmouth on a number of occasions and drew upon the subject matter thoughout his career.
