A GROUP OF DRAWINGS BY PAUL HUET (LOTS 202-253) Huet studied in Baron Gros's studio, where he met Bonington, with whom he discovered a common interest in landscape. Huet also befriended literary figures such as Victor Hugo and Lamartine, and artists such as Barye. Of these it was Delacroix who became his closest friend. In the early part of his career, Huet sought inspiration in Normandy, around Les Andelys, and in the Mont d'Auvergne, as well as in the forest of Fontainebleau and around Paris. Often in poor health, Paul Huet favoured working in watercolour which was less demanding than oil painting. He spent the last ten years of his life at Chaville near Paris, where he bought a cottage. Works referred to: A. Joubin, Centenaire du Romantisme, Exposition Paul Huet, Paris, 1930. P. Burty, Paul Huet, Notice biographique et critique, suivie du catalogue de ses oeuvres, exposées en partie dans les salons de l'Union Artistique, Paris, 1869. A.
