Lot Essay

Professor Jaap Bolten has noted that this group is seen from a different angle in a drawing in the Albertina, Vienna (inv. 8105), and that the figures seen here appear, with different effect, in Bloemaert's painting of A farm landscape with Tobias and the Angel in the Centraal Museum, Utrecht, M. Roethlisberger, Abraham Bloemaert and his sons, Doornspijk, 1993, no. 478, fig. 660.
