A Japanese lacquer vase
19th century
of baluster form with flaring neck, set on three shaped feet, decorated in gold and partly coloured lacquer with panels of a lady and boy in a flowering garden and a bird and butterfly in flight above a meandering stream beside flower-strewn riverbanks, inlaid ivory and mother of pearl details, all within borders of geometric pattern panels, the neck onlaid in mother of pearl and coral with scattered flowerheads, the interior and base in nashiji -- 81/8in. (20.5cms) high, (some wear).
