Medals awarded by the Nepalese for service in the war against Tibet, 1855-6. These medals, which were issued in the names of sixteen regiments which fought in the war, have been described in detail in an article by the late Dr.Karl Gabrisch and Nicholas Rhodes in Spink's Numismatic Circular, Vol.XCVII, 1, 1989, pp.260-63. The medals appear to have been originally issued with a loop for suspension, with no ribbon. Many of the loops were removed in the past, so the medals could be sold to western collectors as coins, and have sometimes been replaced in recent years.
