1978 ROLLS-ROYCE SILVER SHADOW II SALOON
Registration No. Not Registered
Chassis No. SRH 34286
Engine No. 34286
Green with a green leather upholstery
Engine: V8 overhead valve, 6750cc, 220bhp; Gearbox; three-speed automatic; Suspension; fully independent with automatic hydraulic height control system; Brakes: disc brakes all round. Right hand drive
The first cars built by Rolls-Royce with monocoque construction were the Silver Shadow and T-Series Bentley. The conventional chassis frame was replaced by a front sub-assembly and a rear sub-assembly for the back axle and suspension. Power was from the 6.2 litre, eight cylinder, light alloy engine while other features such as hydraulic disc brakes, and an improved power-assisted steering system, ensured that the new model was mechanically up-to-date. Although the car did not have any sporting pretensions it was still swift and, as always, accommodated four passengers in great style and comfort. Latterly for the introduction of the Shadow II in 1977, Rolls-Royce increased the engine size to 6750cc by lengthening the stroke.
This car was originally supplied to Mr Paris though HR Owen in London finished in Shell grey with green hide. Build sheets note that the only special features ordered were plain 'Sundym' glass, head restraints to each front seat, internally adjustable mirror to both front doors and fit lag and diagonal safety belts to each rear seat. From the service book we are able to establish that the car was maintained by the Rolls-Royce main agent in Dublin, Huet Motors Ltd. The last service recorded was completed the highly respected Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialist Hoffman's of Henley in 1986. Soon after this we understand that the car then went to Japan.
The car would seem to have been re-painted relatively recently to its present green livery, as it is in very good condition, and now matches what we presume to be the original interior. The speedometer reading of 59,000 miles, is commensurate with its condition and may be original.
In the recent months the Rolls-Royce has been basically re-commissioned and made to run, however having not run for some years prior to this, we would recommend that a full mechanical inspection be completed prior to use.
Please note that this car is subject to full import VAT at 17.5 on the total purchase price.
