Attributed to John Dollings, Stine Pottery White Cottage, Ohio, mid-19th century
Modelled in the form of a human head with coleslaw-hair, eyebrows and moustache, kaolin and green-glaze decorated eyes and teeth, applied ears and swing-handle mount, and cylindrical pouring spout
10½in. high overall, 6½in. diameter the base

Lot Essay

Four documented examples of Dolling's work are known and are in museum collections. They include two at the Ohio Historical Society, one at the Zanesville Art Center, and one at Winterthur. It is on the basis of these examples that the attribution of this lot is made.
