This three handled love cup was manufactured as a sample, on speculation in October 1897. According to Gorham scholar Samuel Hough, this cup required 70 hours to fashion and 45 hours to chase, for a net factory price of $180.00. The piece remained within Gorham's inventory for three and a half years, until it was engraved for presentation in May 1901.
