The attribution was kindly suggested by Nancy Ward Neilson, who compares the drawing to one reproduced in G. Bora, 'Da Leonardo all'Accademia della Val di Bregno; Giovan Paolo Lomazzo, Aurelio Luini e i disegni degli Accademici', Raccolta Vinciana, XXII, 1989, p. 95, fig. 12. The drawing is close in style to that of Giovanni Paolo Luini's better known brother Aurelio (1530-1593).
