Painted in famille rose enamels in the center with Vertumnus, disguised as an old woman, entreating Pomona, who bears a basket of fruit, as Cupid watches with a gilt flaming heart in his hand, all within a delicately rendered series of grisaille and gilt borders

Vertumnus tried a number of disguises in his effort to seduce Pomona, goddess of gardens and orchards, finally succeeding when he revealed his true self. See Hervouet et Bruneau, op. cit., p. 309 for a slightly larger but otherwise identical dish
