The center with a large coat-of-arms of Rudge quarterly in iron-red, black, grisaille, gilt and underglaze blue, the rim with a border of dragons contesting a flaming pearl and fish and a pavilion rising from waves, on the reverse four floral sprigs and a lambrequin border in iron-red

Lot Essay

D.S. Howard, op. cit. p. 296 illustrates a plate with the arms of Rudge quartering Chalmers and discusses the Rudge family of Staffordshire, whose arms were confirmed in 1634 to Edward Rudge, Sheriff of London in 1637
