The arms of Michel in the center under a gilt canopy hung with rose garlands and drapery, gilt spearhead on the well and the rim with finely enamelled rose, tulip and peony sprays, parrots perched on scrollwork, and a pink shell opposite the Michel crest

Lot Essay

Probably made for David-Robert Michel of Kingston Russell, Dorset, whose brother-in-law was Lancelot Lee of Coton of the famous Chinese export service (see lot 154). Ref. D.S. Howard, op. cit., p. 489
