A VICTORIAN POLYCHROME-PAINTED AND PARCEL-GILT ROYAL COAT-OF-ARMS
Second half 19th century
Of standard form, the lion and unicorn supports above acanthus-scrolls and a ribbon inscribed with the motto DIEU ET MON DROIT and flanking the Hanoverian arms on an oval cabochon with a panelled surround inscribed HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE, surmounted by a closed crown with ermine and orb, regilt in oil, the polychrome decoration refreshed

This Royal coat-of-arms was used from the time Victoria took the throne in 1837.
