Lot Essay

The recto and verso of this sheet are most probably portraits of Pissarro's son Lucien, born in 1865 from the artist's relationship with Julie Vellay. These tender depictions of Lucien display Pissarro's early sources of inspiration: Degas influenced by Ingres, and particularly Corot's pencil drawings.
