Lot Essay

In a letter dated October 4 1995, Jane Kallir states: "I examined this work in the original some years ago and at the time it was my opinion that there was reason to question the authenticity of the coloring as was subsequently noted in the aforementioned catalogue entry [of the catalogue raisonné]. However, I have no doubt that the charcoal drawing is genuine."
