Lot Essay

Madame Heim was the wife of the fashion designer with whom Sonia Delaunay, the artist's wife, worked closely. In the present work the artist has combined figurative painting with the stylised geometrical shapes that were the hallmark of 'Orphism'. The sitter wears a shawl designed by Sonia.
