1982 RANGE ROVER VIP CEREMONIAL VEHICLE

Black with black interior and glass viewing platform.
Engine: Vee-eight, overhead valves, 3528cc, 178bhp at 4750rpm; Gearbox with combined transferbox, eight forward and two reverse ratios; Brakes: Servo assisted discs all round; Suspension: radius arms, Panhard rod and coil springs to front, rear dual rate coil springs. Right-hand drive.
Rover announced the Range Rover in 1970 after four years of development to produce a vehicle combining the ruggedness and versatility of the Land-Rover with handling and performance equal to a high-performance saloon. It was powered by the well proven 3.5 litre Vee-eight and was just about capable of 100 mph. Since then the Range Rover has established itself as a world leader amoung four-wheel drive, off-road dual purpose vehicles with a respectible open road capability.
This ceremonial VIP version, believed to be one of only two built to this specification, was delivered to RAF Rudloe Manor in April 1982 and then extensively used for VIP duties during the next ten years. There are photographs (which at the time of writing we had not seen) of it being used by HM The Queen and other dignatories. The Chauffeur's compartment has a fixed roof and the VIP compartment has four seats (two x two facing each other) with blue velour covering and a detachable glass roof.
The vehicle is in good condition, is finished in black and has chromium plated bumpers and hand rail. There is a pair of amber lights in the radiator grille which are presently disconnected. Mechanically this Range Rover is standard, with a manual gearbox, and has covered only about 46,000 miles. One extra feature being a police calibrated speedometer highly accurate up to a maximum 40mph.
The Range Rover would be an ideal show exhibit or could equally be used - it is sold with a V5 Registration document and current MOT to the end of November this year.
