MARCHESI PIERO ANTINORI
The Antinori family has been producing wine since 1385, though the contemporary company was founded towards the end of the nineteenth century. Today the family owns large holdings throughout Tuscany including Santa Cristina, which includes Tignanello and Solaia, I Peppoli, Badia a Passignano, as well as the Tenuta Belvedere in the Maremma. Like many of the old wine producing families throughout Italy, the Antinori family has amply transformed their production to include a vast range of contemporary wines. Under the guidance of Marchesi Piero, the company has become one of the pre-eminent producers of wine in the world. Tignanello is a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon produced from the plot in the Santa Cristina vineyard. The 1978 is noted for its elegance and nuance, although the yields were particularly high. Given its high acidity in its youth, it is only now beginning to come into its own.
