RONCHI DI CIALLA
Paolo and Dina Rapuzzi started this winery in 1970 with the goal of furthering local varietals. Producing only limited quantities from their 14 hectares, the wines are remarkable examples of these varietals. Having realized not only the potential of these varietals in general, they have also recognised their ageability, which is a function of the mineral rich soil. From time to time older vintages are made available to the commercial market - and these wines are a good example. After intense selection in the vineyard, the low yielding Schioppettino spends thirteen months in barrique and one year in bottle before it is released. The 1988 is a pure expression of both varietal character and the micro-climate - the growing season was long and yielded excellent fruit. Having now spent ten years in bottle, it is an eloquent comment on the potential of the Udine Province.
The 1991 Piccolit is a rarity, of which very little is produced. Grapes are harvested and dried on straw mats until ready for fermentation. Once fermented, the wine is aged in barrique and bottled. The resultant wine is a perfect balance of fruit and life-prolonging acidity. Zachys/Christie's is proud to offer these rare and unusual wines.
