OLIVETO
Tenuta Oliveto produces Rosso di Montalcino like many people produce Brunello. Working with low yields at higher than normal altitudes for Rosso, they achieve a level of structure one looks for in Brunello.
Oliveto's soil is quite high in lime and sandstone maryl. As such, the vineyards drain quite well, stressing the vines. Using natural techniques in the vineyard, Oliveto compliments the inherent peculiarities. It is unusual to experience Rosso di Montalcino with noticeable extract levels. These are wines where this is apparent. Perhaps the greater attribute is the harmony between the tannins and the extract. Oliveto fully takes advantage of what it has, which is clearly something special. Hopefully many others will follow their lead.
