LUCE DELLA VITE
Luce della Vite is a joint project between the Frescobaldi and Mondavi Families. Working from the Frescobaldi estate in Montalcino, Castelgiocondo, the team of Tim Mondavi and Lamberto Frescobaldi oversee the production. Luce is a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot from Montalcino, one of the greatest wine growing areas in Italy.

The Sangiovese grapes come from the Luce vineyard located on a beautiful hilltop slope, with a rocky, dry, limestone and slate soil, at an altitude of 1400 feet. This area is particularly blessed by optimal conditions : the summer season is characterized by dry warm days and cool breezy nights which allow a long ripening cycles, ideal for the difficult Sangiovese grapes. The low yielding 25 year-old vines are farmed and trained in a low spurred cordon, the average density is 3,500 vines per hectare.

The Merlot comes from the Frescobaldi's Lamaione vineyard, situated at 1000 feet of elevation in a slightly richer soil. Because of the different location and the easier, more uniform ripening cycle, Merlot is usually harvested two or three weeks before Sangiovese. The entire system is designed to maximize the unique qualities of the soil.
Exclusively for this occasion, the two families have opened their personal reserve and made available each vintage of Luce released to date.
