MARCARINI
The most impressive thing about Marcarini's wines is how committed they are to the integrity of each vineyard site. Tasting with Manuel Marchetti is truly an exploration of these unique sites. Marcarini has 29 acres of vines 19 of which are planted with Nebbiolo for Barolo. Given the high altitude and the older general age of the vines, the yields are only 2.4 - 2.8 tons per acre. Marchetti and consulting enologist Armando Cordero vinify each vineyard separately. Aging takes place in traditional large format oak casks. The 1988 Barolo Brunate is a Barolo true to where it comes from; it is extremely elegant and expressive with subtle aromas and medium extract. Barolo Brunate 1990 is an unusually dense wine with woodsy aromas and gentle nuances. Both have only just begun to develop and have a long life ahead of them. One of the great pleasures afforded to a wine lover is having the opportunity to taste these extraordinary wines.
