JERMANN
Silvio Jermann is a man whom is not afraid to take things in the direction which he wants, and to live with the consequences. One would not gather this from his quiet, almost shy, demeanor. The consequences of his winemaking though, have been easy to bear. In 1977 he decided that the way to avoid problems associated with fashion was to make blended wines. His Vintage Tunina is one of the finest blended wines made in Italy; although it varies in proportion from year to year, it is always a blend of Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Ribolla, Malvasia and Picolit. The wine is aromatically beautiful and deeply flavoured. It surely expresses the region from which it comes in its unique mineral aromas and the enticing structure only possible in the region.
Where Dreams Have No End, in addition to the name, is one of the most enticing barrique aged white wines one can find. One worries about the dangers of masking the elegant Friulian fruit with too much wood, but Jermann thwarts all these concerns. Given the small yields that he works with, the aromas are focused and refined, not laden with weighty oak; likewise in the mouth, the terroir intermingles with the dense extract. It is impossible to question Jermanns comprehension of the land which he farms, nor his mastery in the cellar.
