SERAFINA & VIDOTTO
Since 1987 enologist Francesco Serafini and his partner Antonello Vidotto have been investigating the potential of the Marca Trevigiana zone of the Treviso province. Having purchased an old convent and its vineyards they are producing some intriguing Bordelaise blends. The vineyards have a southern exposure but are well cooled in the evenings by breezes from the sea and the nearby Valle del Piave. Mineral rich soil provides tremendous drainage. The two proprietors' ambition is to produce great wine from this unique microclimate. They actualize this both in the vineyard where all fertilization is organic and all work is done entirely by hand, as well as in the winery where intense selection results in wines of great character and balance. Rosso dell'Abazia is an ample reward for their work. This bordeaux blend has excellent depth of colour, and an aromatic profile which is the perfect expression of both the unique terroir they wish to convey as well as varietal character. Texturally it is dense, but exhibits excellent minerality and acidity giving it tremendous structure.
Il Rosso dell'Abazia--Vintage 1997
Veneto (Nervesa della Battaglia), Serafina & Vidotto
In original cartons
Parcel: lots 744-746
"a finesse-styled, austere, Bordeaux-like wine that should handsomely repay aging. The 1997's saturated ruby/purple color is followed by smoky black currant fruit, good fatness, low acidity, and the vintage's tell-tale opulence and lushness. It should drink well for 10-12 years. The consultant for this wine is Roberto Cipresso... Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate Issue 124 8/27/99
