inscribed 'Samuel Paynter Musson Dec 14 - 1796 nov 10 - 1873 Buried at Barbados' on an old label on the reverse; and ' This painting is of "De-ah" (Maria Herbert) the faithful and loving nurse of the Musson family in Barbados and England.She came to the family at 13 and died at this house at 69.(1915).It is painted by John Hardy Musson who was killed in action at Neuve Chap..ulle (France) in July 1915 and was awarded the M.C. brother of the writer Alan Hardy Musson.'on an old label on the reverse.
